Last week we were invited to the debut of
Rosa Mexicano, an upscale Mexican restaurant that first opened in New York in 1984. Twenty-five years later, the owners are hoping to conquer Los Angeles with their L.A. Live location.

Rosa Mexicano introduced us to their take on Mexican food and entertainment with a live D.J., open bar, and of course, their food.

Drinks were happily and freely thrusted into our hands when we entered the door. Besides beer and wine, the bar showcased three main cocktails: the
Hornipolitan, the
Frozen Pomegranate Margarita, and the
La Clasica Margarita. The
Hornipolitan (above) screamed tequila (Hornitos Reposado Tequila) and had slight cranberry and lime kick. Delicious.

Rosa Mexicano's signature dish is their
Guacamole Molcajete, which is usually prepared tableside in a traditional al lava mortar. The guacamole was addicting! Avocado--not lime--is refreshingly the dominate flavor in this chunky, light, and spicy gucamole.

A taco bar with an al carbon carving station greeted guest at the entrance. The beef tacos with a green sauce were absolutely scrumptious. We didn't realize how much food was at the event, so we had way too many of these.

A seafood bar marked by ice sculptures lit the main dining room. Wesley picked up some fresh-tasting shrimp, oysters, mussels, and a few different ceviches.
Mini-Quesadillas, also very addicting, were served in a corn tortilla and mass produced right in front of our eyes at the quesadilla cooking station.
Roasted pulled duck was served in corn tortillas under a tasty
yellow pepper habernero sauce. They also offered a
shredded chicken with a
mole sauce.

Hors d'ouevres were being passed left and right. The
mini-crab cake was an extremely crabby treat.
Mini sopes with black beans in a red sauce and corn tortilla were crunchy and scrumptious.

The
beef broquette with cherry tomatoes, onions and tender pieces of beef were served with a mango salsa.
Flautas filled with chicken were rolled in crispy corn tortillas.

A
churro cart parked in the patio served mini and long churros. The strawberry and caramel sauces were a bit overpowering, but the churros itself were crunchy on the outside and warm and soft in the center.
We had a great time mingling with other bloggers (
H.C. from L.A.-O.C.,
Food GPS,
e*star LA,
Caroline on Crack,
Shop Eat Sleep,
Food She Thought) and enjoying the opening of Rosa Mexicano. We look forward to hitting up the bar again and chowing down on their guacamole.
Thank you
